Most drivers don’t realize how much difference the brightness of their headlights makes to visibility after dark. The fact is that even slightly dimmer light can reduce your reaction time when a collision threat suddenly arises. With this in mind, always watch out for the following issues, and don’t hesitate to have new headlights installed at your nearest Kia dealership.

6 Signs Your Kia Needs New Headlights

Your Headlights Are Dimmer

All headlight bulbs inevitably start to grow dimmer before they finally wear out. The key is to notice the fading light and replace the bulbs before you find yourself driving with reduced visibility. Dimming headlights is usually due to a worn-out bulb, but an underlying problem with the electrical supply can also cause dimming.

Your Headlights Seem Cloudy

If your headlights appear to be producing cloudy or hazy light, then your headlight lenses might be to blame. Sometimes cloudy lenses are simply dirty and need to be cleaned. Sometimes myriad tiny scratches from road debris or oxidization from UV rays in sunlight have caused more permanent damage to the lenses, which then need to be replaced.

Your Headlights Start Flickering

A problem with the ground wire or bulb filament might cause a headlight to start flickering. It’s usually best to have a technician inspect a flickering headlight. They might be able to repair it without replacing the bulb.

Your Fuse Keeps Blowing

Poorly installed bulbs or problems with the socket or wiring can sometimes cause the headlight fuse in a car to keep blowing. If your headlight fuse blows repeatedly, have a professional test the system and diagnose the cause of the fault.

One of Your Bulbs Stops Working

If just one headlight bulb stops working, have it replaced at once as it’s important to have even brightness on both sides of your car. It’s usually advisable to replace both bulbs in the pair at the same time. This is because the second bulb is rarely far behind the first and might already be losing brightness.

Your Headlights Refuse To Turn On

If both headlights refuse to come on, it’s unlikely that the fault lies with a single bulb. Here, you might have a problem with the wiring, dimmer switch, headlight relay, or fuse. For anything more than a blown fuse, you’re likely to need a technician to resolve the problem.

Your Kia Dealer Finds an Electrical Fault

During your regular maintenance checkups, be sure to have your car’s electrical system inspected, including the headlights. This way, you’re likely to find out about any potential issues before they cause you visibility problems on the road.
