3 Electrical Problems You Should Always Fix at Your Kia Dealer

Burning Insulation

The alternator produces the electricity for your car’s systems. This power is carried to every system that needs it via electrical wiring. An engine is a very inhospitable place for wires, as heat, grease, dirt, and subtle movements as you drive can all cause damage to the wiring. All the wires in your car are protected against these threats by thick plastic or rubber insulation.

Unfortunately, wiring becomes fragile as it gets older, and this can cause it to snap. Electricity will continue to flow into a broken wire but won’t pass through the break to the system that needs it. This causes the affected system to shut down. In addition, the flow of electricity into the wires causes them to heat up, and the insulation can burn. If you smell burning plastic, call us immediately. We’ll find the damaged wiring and replace it for you.

Blown Fuses

Fuses are essential protection for any electrical system. Electrical shorts can be caused by damaged wires, water, wires touching each other, and other reasons. If they happen, electricity follows an unexpected route through the electrical system and can damage sensitive components. A fuse will absorb any rogue charge and blow out. This prevents damage to the system connected to the fuse but also shuts it down until the fuse is replaced.

Every electrical system in your car has a fuse. If you suddenly discover that your radio doesn’t work or the moonroof refuses to open, you could have a blown fuse. Our technicians will need to examine your fuses and electrical system. We’ll replace any damaged fuses and identify and repair the cause of the electrical short to prevent any recurrence.

Dim Headlights

Headlight bulbs have a lifespan of 500 to 30,000 hours, depending on the type of bulb in your vehicle. The filament in a bulb is very delicate and will eventually break due to heat damage from the electrical current. If this is the cause of the trouble, we will quickly replace the bulbs to solve this issue.

A worn-out alternator can also cause dim headlights. When an alternator gets older, its electricity production starts to drop. Eventually, the alternator won’t be able to supply all your car’s electricity demands. In this case, the lights will be dim as they receive only enough power to light up. We can fix this problem by replacing your alternator.
